It was my first day in Freshworks office at Chennai. I was bit nervous and over excited to meet new people and I made myself ready to face the corporate world. For the first time when I was in the office I can’t take off my eyes and paused for a moment looking at every art on the walls and stunned by interior design of office and I got to realize that it was not like any other routine office.

All the Onboarding sessions were fun-filled, thought provoking and got to know how I can fit into the bigger picture. After this as it was Wednesday so I had Biryani at office canteen which tasted almost like a 5-star hotel food. Then, I have roamed all over the office, trying to familiarize myself and played few indoor games. At the end of the day, I had a meeting with my manager and teammates and it went good.

Initially I was preoccupied with few thoughts that there will be lot of authoritarianism by managers and senior colleagues which is commonly portrayed in movies. Also, I have thought that many of colleagues will treat this as a routine 9–5 job with unhappy expression over their faces. But,as soon as I started working with my fellow colleagues, I understood that they were totally different and they never wanted to leave the office. Every single day they want to try out new things and innovate which might help to save company resources. They were constantly exploring different ways to improve the performance and add more features to products. And, all of them were friendly and helping me whenever I am struck at any point.

The thing that differentiates Freshworks from other SASS companies is the trust and care they have on employees and benefits they provide are very overwhelming. Not only this makes a employee to be happy but feel secured over their career and try to work hard for benefit of the company.

All days were going as expected and enjoying most of my work and time at office. But all of sudden due to Covid, lockdown was imposed and all were needed to work from home. Initially we expected it would end for two to three weeks. But as conditions were worsening slowly I realized that it is not going to end soon and need to get adjusted to this mode of working. All the discussions were going on Slack and meetings were on Zoom. Slowly it became a new normal and I need to fix a schedule to manage work and other activities in life.

Overall it was a great experience working in corporate company as an intern. During the internship, I was more interested to code but what is more valued and important is systematic approach to problem, documentation and readability of code is more required.Everything needs to go in systematic order and this helps to avoid bugs in code in future. More than coding or completing the project what is needed is generic approach and more readability of work which can help as an extension to future projects.
